Professionalism with a hint of style!!

Remember the days when the symbol of Mr/Mrs High Paid Executive was the black leather briefcase? Remember how the sound of it opening made you nervous, either causing an excitement in your belly (ie.. a promotion or raise letter) or a chill down your spine (ie.. pink slip or
...well a pink slip)? Most importantly, remember how incredibly boring and just downright ugly they looked?
    Oh the horror!!!!

    Bargainistas & Wisconsin's State Fair !!

Are you a pocket friendly fashionista who's looking for fun times at this years Wisconsin's State Fair?

If so this one's for you!

I've never been one to shy away from anything vintage. Infact, some of my best finds have been "discovered" in thrift stores, or as I like to call them The Oceans Of Gently Used Goodness! For this reason alone, I'm always encouraged and love to encourage others to try the store nearest them for those must have items. Afterall, you never know what kind of deals you can come across!

Now to the good part (and the point of this blog entry),

This year I came across an article in a local Wisconsin paper where they're offering a great deal for design on a dime fashionistas who may be looking for something cute to wear at this year's State Fair. Apparently, and for a few days only, the Wisconsin State Fair has a deal on Tuesday August 10th (sorry for the late notice) where when you bring in a purchase receipt from your local Goodwill store,  (which must be dated from 7/12-8/10) you can take advantage of a 2 for 1 admission!

    Thinking out loud again...Aug 8 2010!!

As human beings we are all born with less than desirable attributes. Whether we label them "flaws" or "imperfections" , their a very real part of any and every genetic makeup. Knowing this, as we spend more time in this life, humanity has learned to at least acknowledge the existence. Whether it be the patient in the plastic surgeons office

or the model in the Dove commercial , we consciously make decisions to reject or embrace any and all things about ourselves that could be seen as less than perfection (by others).

What happens though when it goes to far? Sure one could ask "who decides what's too far" or "what's the harm"...afterall we all have the right to "fix" things that "we" feel is wrong with us right?

    Definitely!

However,  what happens when we put that type of power in the hands of others? As I write this, I know someone is saying to themselves, "being judged by others is a part of life, isn't it"? Of course it is!

    but,

there is a difference between seeking an opinion (which we get even when we don't ask for it ) and absorbing someone else's view of who we are, adding it to our molecular structure and presenting it to our brain as "THIS IS WHAT IT IS" .....or isn't it?

    Just wondering!

    Appreciate your beauty day...

The skull that sits on my shoulders is covered in caramel goodness. It's layers consist of soft, subtle lids ....short innocent lashes and eyes whose shade is reminiscent of the sweetest piece of chocolate! In the
center sits my full round nose. Free from angularity, this instrument is key to my very being, in that it's my "unseen focal point" controlling all the functions that are seen. As I move lower, I'm incensed at the lusciousness of my lips! To say their are full would be an understatement, their more than full, my lips are what I'd like to call, abundantly ample! Alone each lip carries it's own defined goodness.... together (while pulling in the tenderness of my chin) they are a picture of profound loveliness.

Moving lower I acknowledge the soft, smooth, cocoa colored simpleness of my neck. It's ending marks the beginning of the nurtured goodness that is my breasts. The semi-cylinder lines separating the two, encourages each one to show it's own individual glory while at the same time, presenting a collective presence that demands the most acute attention.

Representing the core, sits the magnificence of my belly. The paths in it's hills tell a memorable story of physical exertion and healthy creation. At the center of it's universe, is a secret not genuinely discussed but whose entity is notoriously known and sometimes even adorned.

    Oh the beauty!

The beauty and the awe of my strong thighs, which peak a certain curiosity as they whisper about what's behind them and while ambiguously bringing attention the secret they share "between" them. Finally, like a completion to a long journey, the road down my legs are pleasantly interrupted as they are bolted to the angular shaped ankle which is comfortably sliding it's way to the base of my foot....

which is enjoying it's own moment with the cunningness of my toes!

    Reading, Writing and Fashionably Radiant!!!

As Summer winds down students all over the world are anticipating their wardrobe for the up and coming school year. As much as we would love to keep our flip flops our tank tops and our shoooooooort shorts, we know that they'll soon be replaced by our more cautiously coutured wardrobes. Never one to follow the expected, I found a few pieces that I feel would be very appropriate for both the academic runway and the after school catwalk. Whether your the youngster or the young at heart you can look chic in any learning environment.

    Enjoy!!

Can regular and plus sizes be seen on the same runway?

    2009-12-22-098_TERRYRICHARDSON_2.jpg

For decades, the fashion industry has promoted the fantasy that relevant fashion was strictly for women whose waistines fell below a certain size. Fashion runways thrive and are known for displaying extravagance & showcasing the spectacular & flaunting the beautiful.
2009-12-22-098_TERRYRICHARDSON_.jpgGiven the appreciation towards the concept of beauty, it's still interesting to see the omission of curvaceous figures on it's runways. In the past few years we've seen an uprising of shows geared at women (and men) who are on the curvier side of sylish spectrum.2009-12-22-098_TERRYRICHARDSON_3.jpg Like their "traditional" counterparts they too have a knack for promoting and displaying beautiful clothing and concepts, which begs the question why the seperation?2009-12-22-098_TERRYRICHARDSON_4.jpg Why can't the two come together and be seen on the same runways at the same times? Is it too soon to think that this could happen.

What are your thoughts on this?

    Breakfast of Champion.......fashionista style!

It's funny how memories of the yesterday inspire our fashion sense's of today. The funky disco's of the 70's, the androgyny of the 80's even the house parties of the 90's seem to spark up fuzzy yet memorable images that beg to be immortalized. This is why it's so fascinating for me to see designs or looks that can so easily embrace, capture and "bottle " these styles to share with the world.

Remember when the best part of Saturday mormings was the breakfast cereal???

**Please note, the looks are 2 yrs back, but kudos to the designers!!**

What's in a design? Thinking out loud again!!

As I sit here thinking and contemplating my next creation, I continually find myself thinking of ways to use non-tradional fabric in more traditional ways. With everything I learned in those high priced textile classes I took in college, you'd think I would steer clear of entertaining any idea that conflicted with those textile rules, huh? Then again I am (as I'm sure many of my readers already know) I have been know to break 1 or 2 rules!!

Which brings me to my the question at hand. What's really on the mind of designers when they create some of their most noticeable concoctions. If I can sucessfully pull off creating let's say a pair of wearable socks using courdouroy and metal, when asked, I would have to convey how my inspiration came from some sort of inner rebellion, not some real need or fluffy feeling.

Does that make it any less of a creative inspiration? Would that make the finished product any less of a design?

    hmm....

    For my girlie girls.....

With the hustle and bustle in our day to day lives no one can blame a woman (or a man) for wanting to temporarily channel the days of yesteryear. The times in our lives when the only thing that we can remember, for some reason, is how our hair was styled (pony tails or braids), what we are wearing (dresses or pants) and our shoes!

    Maybe it's just me

    but,

I've found this to be the case in my own life particularly when I'm shopping and I come across looks similar to this one like these.

I came across this designer while galavanting through my twitter universe and thought it was worth the mention. For more from this designer you can visit here

    Flip Flop Facts?!!?

    I guess.

I'm not a doctor by any means but the article was interesting enough.....enjoy!

The right kind of flip-flops to wear this summer

At last, the breezy days of summer are upon us. Instead of repeatedly checking the daily weather forecast to deliberate if we need a scarf or sweater for layering, we can enjoyably slip on some comfy shorts or an effortless sundress. For many of us, flip-flops become the go-to footwear to accompany such an ensemble, but as we’ve often been warned, these flimsy slip-ons do not always provide ideal foot support.

USA Today reports that Justin Shroyer, an assistant professor of kinesiology at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, studied over 100 flip-flop wearers to uncover patterns in their feet and leg movements. While presenting his findings at the American College of Sports Medicine's annual meeting in Baltimore this week, Shroyer explained some of the key problems with these shoes. Namely, he discovered that by trying to grip and hold flip-flops in place, people work the muscles in their shins much harder than when they’re barefoot. He said that shortened strides while wearing flip-flops can also strain the lower legs.

"The more the shoe conforms to your foot, the better off your foot and leg will be," Shroyer told USA Today. "If it's loose, your foot has to work harder to keep your flip-flop on." He said that more structured flip-flops with deepened heel cups and defined arches can remove some of the stress from your feet and legs, but that a sneaker is still preferred when doing extensive walking or activity.

Dr. Rock Positano, director of the Non-surgical Foot and Ankle Service at the Hospital for Special Surgery, confirms Shroyer's findings. "With no real solid support underneath the foot, it loses its shock-absorbing capabilities. The lower leg, shin, knee, hip, and back are overworking." Dr. Jacqueline Sutera, doctor of podiatric medicine and surgery for the American Podiatric Medical Association, agrees with Shroyer as well. "Wearing flip-flops will shorten your stride, so your leg and foot muscles have to work harder," she says. "This causes the need for compensation--sometimes from your knees, hips, and back. This could be bad news for people with previous injury in these sensitive areas." In addition, Dr. Positano says certain pathological foot types (like high and flat arches) predispose people to foot and ankle issues, and that soft flip-flops with no support accentuate these mechanical deficiencies. Some short-term issues related to flip-flop use would be heel and arch pain, tendinitis, shin splints, sprains, splinters, cuts, and toe injuries. Long-term problems might be stress fractures, bunions, hammertoes, and neuromas.

As Shroyer suggested, "not all flip-flops are created equal," says Dr. Sutera. "The wider the straps, the better. Also, try to get a sandal with a back strap. Back straps take some of the stress off your toes and decrease the demand for them to work so hard." She agrees that a more contoured flip-flop is preferable. "If you have arch support and can cup the heel, then the foot may not pronate as much." (Pronation is when the arch flattens out when we place weight on the foot.) "There is a certain amount of pronation that is normal, but over-pronation causes many, many foot problems. I call it "the root of all evil."

When it comes to brands, some are better than others. Those ultra-affordable Old Navy flip-flops may be appealing and available in every color, but your feet will pay the price if you’re doing much more activity than sitting around at a barbeque. Dr. Sutera lists Crocs, Clarks, Born, Teva, and Birkenstock as acceptable brands for light to moderate use. For a higher end option, Dr. Positano is impressed with the offerings from Tory Burch, Chanel, Prada, and Bally. Here's a complete list of flip-flops given the APMA Seal of Acceptance.

Even with a comfortable flip-flop, you should limit your use to no more than a few hours of wear. "If you’re hanging around the pool or going to the beach it’s fine. They’re not going to kill you," says Dr. Positano. "Where people get into trouble is when they use them all day, walking around, and standing for a long period of time." The worst scenario, perhaps, is what Dr. Positano refers to as the "Disney World fracture." "You have a person who’s already walking more than they’re accustomed too. Pair that with foot gear with no support, and you have the quickest way to arrive at the vacation from hell. Trips are ruined because people develop stress fractures, knee problems, and hip and back problems."

When in doubt, Dr. Positano offers up some simple but important advice: "The bottom line is wearing flip-flops is no different than wearing three-inch high heels. Be sensible. Know how to wear something and when to wear it."

    Who says???

Have you ever heard the saying "just because they make it in your size doesn't mean you should wear it?” well I have, and me - being the rebel that I am, am asking  ..."says who?" Whether you’re a size 0 or a size 20 the idea of   "haute inhibition" should send a New York chill down your spine! Or at least that's what it does for me; then again I've been told I have issues (whatever...)!  My motto has always been to "wear the clothes, don't let the clothes wear you", which means (to me) no matter what size, skin tone, hair color etc.. whatever you wear, OWN IT!

I saw some cute items at Kohls I thought some of my full-figured fashionistas might like.
